British Trust for Ornithology

The BTO has existed since 1933 as an independent, scientific research trust, investigating the populations, movements and ecology of wild birds in the British Isles. Their speciality is the design and implementation of volunteer wild bird surveys delivered through a partnership between a large number of volunteers and a small scientific staff. Volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life put their bird-watching skills to good use. They record wild birds systematically using survey methods developed by BTO scientists, who then compile the records and analyse them for publication. This work makes a direct and vital contribution to bird conservation, by enabling both campaigners and decision-makers to set priorities and target resources. It also provides a unique insight into the state of our environment and how it may be changing.

Bat Conservation Trust

The BCT is the only UK organisation solely devoted to the conservation of bats and their habitats. BCT wants a future where everyone, everywhere can enjoy watching and hearing bats as part of their natural environment. With the dedicated support of our members, volunteers and the local bat groups, BCT helps bats through practical conservation projects and research, by supporting and educating people who find bats in their property, and by encouraging everyone to appreciate and enjoy these fascinating animals.

Pensoft International

NHBS Russo-Asiatic is a partnership between NHBS and Pensoft, the Sofia-and Moscow-based natural sciences publisher and book distributor. This unique service offers new books (English and Russian/Slavic) on the botany, zoology, ecology and conservation of Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia.

Since the end of the Cold War, there has been a growth in publishing of bilingual or English-language titles in Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia, and there are also many titles published in slavonic languages which are usable because they have extended English summaries, or present graphs, maps or illustrations which deserve the attention of specialists in particular taxonomic groups.
