A unique study involving thousands of rubber ducks has revealed that surveys conducted using pictures taken from drones are more accurate than those involving traditional counting methods, such as surveying with binoculars or scopes. 

eDNA provides an up-to-date snapshot of species composition
By studying environmental DNA introduced into an experimental stream, biologists from Bangor University have been able to measure just how long this material persists in the environment; a critical step in the validation of eDNA as a survey and monitoring tool.
